Aching for a weekend on a farm? Fresh air, crackling fireplaces, delicious farm fare and heart stopping views are guaranteed to fill up your soul. Walk through the gardens, breathing in the scented geranium and perhaps meeting the odd ostrich. With this kind of beauty it is hard to believe that this remains one of the best kept secrets on the famous Route 62. As you step through the doorway into the thick-walled homestead the feeling of stepping into a world of warmth and hospitality that is almost unknown in today’s fast paced world.
Tinie, the owner, is an insatiable collector and has filled Boesmanskop with the kind of details that interior stylistas will adore. The elegant double-storey guest cottage built at back of the old house was built from reclaimed yellowwood beams from Oudtshoorn. Upstairs, a farm-style brass bed with patchwork quilts promises hours of blissful sleep and waking up to views of the Swartberg. The downstairs suite leads onto the peaceful stoep and pool – a heavenly oasis in the glorious heat of summer. City folk need not fear, the quirky farmhouse feel has fortunately not come at the expense of any of your modern day comforts. The farm offers plenty of walking, past vineyards and tobacco fields that are a beautiful sight in all seasons. For the kids, Tinie’s ostrich hatchery is a real treat. Ever the proud farmer, he’s usually happy take them to watch the chicks hatching. When the day’s activities are over, wrap yourself in a pashmina and settle back, glass in hand to watch the last deep orange rays of the sun turn pink against the rugged mountains – or snuggle up next to a roaring fire while you wait for dinner to be served in the original dining room. This is Karoo living. sleeps 6 one double upstairs and two double bedrooms downstairs limited self-catering, but with dinner and breakfast on request.
