Garonga Safari Camp
Makalali Private Game Reserve
The philosophy at Garonga is to ‘offer a safari for the soul, an unhurried and intimate wildlife encounter to reflect and find inspiration in nature’ and certainly this lodge’s luxury tents situated in 12,000 km of bush which overlook a dry riverbed will give you this.

Each tent has a wooden deck with a hammock and spectacular views over the natural patchwork of greens and browns of the bush and the river bed. The décor reflects the earthiness of the philosophy – textured warm colours and sumptuous bedding to ensure an extremely comfortable stay for the soul!

We just love the tents which wind down the the dry river bed and the fact that you are snuggled under a big mosquito net with your deck and views stretching out beyond. There is an indoor and an outdoor shower.

At the lodge there is a big swimming pool and deck to hang out on and take your lunches and dinners together in the communal dining area. Dinners are often served in different settings eg at the boma, or private dining in a unique spot. In winter breakfast is served late and sometimes in the bush, no lunch, but high tea before the evening game drive and dinner is round the fireplace.

Garonga has a wonderful romantic feel – it’s the mosquito nets, the tents, the hammocks on the little deck, the hurricane lamps, the earthy colours and of course the soul of the bushveld.
