If I had to choose a place to go to for a long holiday with the whole family I would most definitely choose Kleinefontein. It has got all the ingredients for a perfect escape. Your own winding river leading down to the ocean, white sandy beaches, warm water and fabulous long hikes on the farm.

Kleinefontein is my ideal as it is the original historic homestead which was used as a hunting lodge so it is steeped in history which is what you sense on arrival as the walls are original and thick, beautiful thatched roof, original wide yellowwood floors and original terracotta tiles. Fireplaces and woodburning stoves galore. This combination of beautiful antique pieces of furniture, bone handled knives and silverware in the kitchen, ball and claw baths, the comfy couches everywhere, out of Africa, horns, animal skins, four poster beds with gorgeous antique linens are all part of the romance of Kleinefontein.

You will hard pressed to leave for anything other than restocking supplies, days will be spent on the verandah or under the palm tree in a hammock. The children will love the fishing, mud fights, canoeing, swimming, sail boarding, rowing and then board games on the grass in the afternoons. The fact that there is only gas, candlelight and lanterns means that you will really switch off and unwind.
