La Sauvage
Provence, France
La Sauvage is situated about an hour away from Marseilles in a village called Gordes. It is an ancient Bergerie (old stone original farmhouse with wooden shutters) which has been transformed by the owners into a quiet, wild, summer retreat. The gardens are full of wild Olives, Cyprus trees, Fig Trees, an ancient Truffle Orchard planted in 1887, (une Truffieres) just below the pool. There are day beds by the pool to soak up the sun whilst contemplating the 360 degree unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside. Plus banquettes and hammocks strung between trees which is a delight when you need a shady spot to nap in! The stone walls of the farmhouse keeps the house cool in the summers and warm in the winter. The kitchen has stainless steel fridge and sophisticated oven to keep the chefs happy plus an outside sink to wash the tomatoes and the melons. The bedrooms are all en suite and the children will love the attic where there are 4 beds with a wonderful views of the surrounding hills.

My feeling about La Sauvage is that it is very similar to the cottages in Churchaven, it has the exact same feeling of liberty, holidays, sun, nature, simple objects, comfortable, easy, safe. Great fresh food. Fun. No shoes.
