The house, Kleinefontein was built 200 years ago, as a hunting lodge for the
then, mayor of Swellendam. In the early 1800s it was bought by the Barry family
and was frequented by the likes of Lord Charles Somerset, then Governor of the
Cape. The past lives of Kleinefontein hover in every room, as tangible as if
they were nailed to the walls between the antelope heads and East African spears.
This is Colonial living at it’s best, it doesn’t get better than this.
