La maison d'un Cypres
Provence, France La maison d'un Cypres (House of one Cypress), Le Puget is one of a row of ancient stone houses in a valley just north of the picturesque town of Uzes. This house is unique, but to be clear, it takes a while to orientate oneself as it is somewhat higgledepiggledy.... but of course, that is one of it's charms. It is one of the original ancient stone houses in Le Puget with its thick thick walls, fireplaces and hidden rooms which are so beautifully decorated in greys, creams and linens. There are 4 staircases to upstairs, only one of them is internal so you can chose your favourite. We love all the exquisite antiques, the sumptuous cream leather sofa, the 18th century wingback armchair, the linens the beautiful antique plates and glasses, (which don't go in the dishwasher & more from Ikea which do! ). With the long 12–seater dining table the dining room opens up onto the garden and is shady and cool in the summers ….the décor is just ….. simply…. gorgeous. The courtyard is a perfect spot to whilst away an afternoon in the shade or sundowners early evening… the master bedroom has a modern 4 poster bed with an en-suite shower room and a single bed in the dressing room specially for a littley. There is a terrace leading out from the bedroom with a wonderful view where you will be woken up by the sunrise and moon bathe in bed! And big enough to take your breakfast here too. But as well as being quirky, individual and a teeny bit wonky, it has top of the range amenities in the kitchen and a Bang & Olufsen sound system in the dining room plus a small TV and DVD player. The Internet and mobile phone reception is limited to hot spots. Lovely days to be had browsing markets, taking coffee, walks or just reading a book from the art books that are in the house. Order your bread, croissants & papers in the main village at the bar the day before. Tuesday and Friday evenings buy organic produce from the nearby farm and make sure you acquaint with the shepherdess who makes & sells cheese just up the road! The house sleeps 9 main bedroom with ensuite shower room and single bed in dressing room dormitory with 4 single beds - the staircase is steep & not for fainthearted parents double bedroom is below the dormitory which can be split into 2 single beds (the amazing cave bathroom serves these two bedrooms) loads of bath towels the house is stocked with a collection of bicycles for all ages & sizes housekeeper and cook available on request |
