Handpicked for you …
If Anastasis House didn’t stand on terra firma, it could easily be a spacious and elegant tree house. Tucked into rustling milkwood trees, the house looks over the wide white sands of Noordhoek beach – but the views are all the way to Kommetjie lighthouse.
At its core is a unique, slatted, blue gum staircase – a symbolic tree trunk – with natural curved branches for balustades. Bedrooms and living spaces flow easily off this central feature, both upstairs and downstairs. Natural, open and elegantly bohemian, this calm and airy house has splashes of décor hand picked by the owners on exotic travels – especially to Zanzibar.
Anastasis House is both sensitively and thoughtfully designed for absolute appreciation of the surrounding environment. The kitchen and living spaces, as well as the master bedroom, are upstairs with wide ocean views. Then, when you stack away the walls of glass doors, the house transforms into an open-air platform that’s at one with nature and seamless with the backdrop of milkwood forest; the ocean is out front providing background music and views, even when you’re in the kitchen cooking. The house simply epitomises effortless flow, and from every room in the house, you can step out onto the wide, wrap-around deck and instantly commune with nature outside.
Downstairs, with pool views and just a few steps from the beach, are three en-suite bedrooms and a living space for younger ones. There’s also a completely self-contained flatlet on the ground floor, which is ideal for those wanting additional seclusion and privacy. Outside is a shady braai area for summer days around the pool.
But just imagine starting your day slowly, steaming coffee in hand. Step out onto the deck and enjoy it peacefully under the forest canopy. Then follow the boardwalk through the forest, or the short sand path, to the beach for a sunrise walk or refreshing, cool swim. Rinse off at the outdoor shower back home, or take a warm forest bath in absolute privacy. Built into a glass picture window off the master bedroom is a decadent deep bathtub, surrounded by milkwood trees right outside – so you’re virtually in the forest, right amongst the trees as you soak. There’re similar forest views if you kick back and relax in the window seat and just look up. Craggy Chapman’s Peak will be gazing down at you.
Anastasis House and its setting are simply exquisite. The house respects the surrounding environment and rests easily amidst the indigenous trees. Being L-shaped, the building also affords some protection from the coastal wind, and the forest is a buffer too. Such majestic ocean views mostly come with sea breezes; they also come with magical sunsets and whales and dolphins frolicking out to sea. Surrounded by forest, ocean and mountains, Anastasis ‘rises up’ in the midst of these – which is precisely how the house got its name.
