Along the south-eastern coast of the country, where the Indian ocean meets the shore, held in the palm of the encompassing greenery and tide, lies Robberg. A seemingly timeless region of mountain and ragged coastline, with caves and rock formations dating back more than 120 million years.
This home, nestled close to its neighbour, the Robberg Nature Resreve, pays quiet tribute to the majesty of its surrounds. Camp Robberg, although safely tucked within a complex, offers its guests unrivalled privacy. The structure of the home was intended to mimic the unassuming beauty of the landscape, carefully making use of industrial finishes, rounded lines and a natural palette of milkwood and raw concrete. With direct access to the beach, the home’s garden and the expansive glass windows overlooking the blue of the sea, this home immerses its guests in the rich magnificence of the landscape.
The interior of the home is a relaxed mix of old and new; housing found collectables from trips abroad, an eclectic collection of local art and slick modern features. The home offers spaces for moments of both solitude and togetherness; cook together in the fully equipped kitchen, share your meal at the outdoor table or retreat to a comfy nook with a summer read and a cup of tea. Spend your days on the expansive stretch of beach or take a walk to spy the local birdlife and fynbos. Come nightfall, watch the moon steadily rise above the tide or take a night dip in the pool beneath a throng of stars. Camp Robberg is a space for quiet rejuvenation, shared memories and relaxed respite from the rest of the world.

My first impression of Camp Robbeg was how exclusive, tucked away and out of sight it is, nestling quietly away from the bustle of the rest of Plett, on the beach and right next to the majestic peninsula of the nature reserve. When I first drove through the secluded entrance I felt that I was an honored guest rather than a nameless tourist and the passion of the owners is evident in every detail of the house, from the selection of its incredible position to its architectural design - a kind of love affair with the ocean air and light. For me, the house seems like a modernist symphony of glass, steel and raw concrete with an emphasis on discerning sensitivity rather than being flashy and ostentatious. At daybreak, it was such a pleasure to wake up in the beautiful bed linen, with the morning sun rising above the Outeniqua mountains across the bay and the sounds of the waves lapping at the shore just a few meters away. People who love art will appreciate how many of the rooms were carefully considered, designed and furnished around the art collection, rather than merely filling a space with objects! If you walk along the beach at the bottom of the private stairway and look up, Camp Robberg blends into the fynbos-covered dunes rather than imposing itself on its surroundings. After ten glorious days, I left feeling nurtured - as if I had regained my serenity. A truly restorative and unforgettable experience!
We rented this wonderful beachfront property for the long Easter week-end for 4 nights, my husband and I and our 3 children ranging from ages 4 to 12. Our stay was too short and we did not want to leave. The situation and the layout of the house are just incredible a few steps down to the stunning 4.5 kms Robberg beach (to us by far the nicest beach in Plett) and with views of the water, the beach and the Robberg Nature Reserve from pretty much every room of the house. The design is clean and sleek and remarkably thought through but equally warm and welcoming - a true family home with games and TV rooms, a games table overlooking the water, large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and lovely white cotton linen sheets and towels, a beautiful kitchen, back kitchen and cold room. The house happily accommodates two families. The property is well looked after and spotless. Vivian the charming housekeeper came everyday and kept everything impeccable - it was like being in a hotel. As mentioned, the house is very well located right on the beach but only 7/10 mins to the centre of the lovely town of Plett (full of nice restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques) and 5 mins from Plett airport. We are now back in Johannesburg but we cannot wait to go back there.
Camp Robberg was absolutely spectacular, everything was perfect and we had a very memorable stay.
We're so in love with this home - thank you! We would like to book for December.
