Handpicked for you...

Through the little town of Calitzdorp, past stretches of rambling vineyards and orchards, tucked away in a lush valley in the depths of the Klein Karoo, lies the original farmhouse of Daniel’s Kraal. The homestead was built in 1836 with its thatched roof, thick walls and expansive veranda, the house holds a tangible nostalgia, that transports its guests to a time of sweeter, simpler living. The farmhouse rests on 2300 hectares of pristine wilderness; home to hundreds of species of succulents, plants, birds and wildlife. The ‘Little’ Karoo is one of the country’s most subtle, yet magnificent, desert jewels. The air seems crisper, the morning sun welcomes you and the only sounds to greet your ears are birdsong and the hurried whisper of wind through the trees.

The interior is the picture of classic farm style with it’s generously volumed living spaces, plush couches, original fireplaces and rich fabrics. Daniel’s Kraal boasts a special treasure trove of loved collectables; old books, found trinkets, foraged fossils and vintage china, have all found their proper place in this secret part of the world.

The modernised bathrooms and fully-equipped kitchen make for easy and chic country living. The surrounding vineyards, groves of olive trees and the Swartberg mountain range, provide the idyllic vista for G&Ts beneath the silver oak by the pool, and on winter evenings, locally produced port by the crackling fireplace. Come nightfall, look to the skies and be awed by a kaleidoscope of stars.

This is a home that is made to be lived in, a home to be enjoyed and shared. Whether you’re looking to return to a simpler state of being, hike, walk, birdwatch or explore, Daniel’s Kraal offers its guests something truly magical.

This was just a quick one night stop over to come and see Danielskraal, Thank you Rosheen and congratulations on creating a true gem up in this Klein Karoo valley!

Danielskraal is THE GEM of the Karoo. It is even more beautiful in the flesh than on the photographs. We were 4 couples staying for the weekend, welcomed by the owner with sparkling wine, and we left the Sunday, saddened that we had to go. Every second was pure bliss. The house is exceptionally well equipped. We went for a gourmet weekend, cooking a lot and the kitchen had everything we needed. The stoep table had been set for us in advance every day so that we could sit down and enjoy the splendour of the house and front garden, while savouring our meals. If the old gentry style, mixed with a strong feminine touch is what you enjoy, then Danielskraal is an absolute must. It does not have cellphone reception though, but who needs the distraction of a phone in such a beautiful place. If the modern cold minimalist style is your liking, then go to a place with cellphone reception. You will need it! If the bedrooms of Danielskraal would impress you, the bathrooms would floor you! You really feel spoilt in this happy abode, wherever you sit down or whatever you look at. We all agreed that one weekend was too short, we have to go again. It is such a homely place with such unusual things of interest, and books too, that I can recommend it to any discerned weekender.

What an absolute pleasure and privilege to spend the long weekend in the Danielskraal House. Arriving late on Thursday evening we were greeted by a warm fire already lit, and an even warmer greeting from the owner of the farm. And that was the start to an absolute fabulous weekend. The farm house easily catered for the 2 families – 2 big double bedrooms each with on suite and 2 more rooms that share a bathroom (another double bedroom and one with 2 single beds and bunk bed). The stoep and fire pit were the centres of entertainment, where we could just sit long evenings, with a glass of red, staring out onto the farm while contemplating life and things. I could really not find anything that was missing from the property – it even catered for my thirst for mountain biking by having some amazing routes around Calitzdorp. I can highly recommend this getaway and will be back soon.

Nick and I are “pass” fanatics and have loved revisiting them all and then to come ‘home’ to ‘pass out’ in this idyllic house – it’s heavenly!

We had truly the most wonderful stay at your, not so little, spot of beauty! It was wonderful meeting after admiring your grace and style from a distance for so many years. Thank you most sincerely for allowing us to stay and to have the added inconvenience of feeding us! Apologies for my misunderstanding and thank you for going to such tremendous lengths to produce a delicious meal. Many thanks once again Rosheen for your incredible hospitality and allowing us to share in your wonderful world! We hope to visit you again, for a longer stay.

Dear Rosheen and Jamesly, we had an amazing stay at your little piece of karoo heaven. We absolutely loved our time here, and we'e hoping to be back! Thanks also for your lovely dinner and all hospitality, we felt so welcome. All the best!

Danielskraal was truly a fantastic hideaway – the homestead gives a magical, vast view over the valley – we had lazy afternoons on the lawn playing croquet and following the entertainment of the baboon troops in the distance, morning coffee on the veranda paging through all the wonderful books and watching the birdlife, and evenings were spent at the firepit chatting and stargazing — the farm allows you to take long strolls on the country roads to get in touch with nature — the house offers it’s old charm to be explored while all the leisurely details synonymous with the Perfect Hideaways' standards were well endowed — Chris was a perfect gentlemanly host and the staff were only a pleasure to have for extra help!

We have had a fantastic few days here at the farm. Wish we didn’t have to leave – will surely be back in the future. Sally, Chris and the staff were outstanding. Thanks for everything.
