Handpicked for you...

The latest, freshest creation in the Sabie area of Kruger, and what a treasure this Oasis has turned out to be. When it comes to ostentatious African style bush lodges, the Sabie area spoils the chooser. The options all cater for the extremely luxurious end of the scale and push the African theme really hard at every turn. It’s a formula that would take some brave decisions to discard when planning a brand new operation.

Just 9km from Paul Kruger Gate, adjacent to the Kruger Park and sharing the Sabie river as the border, I found Elephant Point Estate. A visit to this superbly appointed Lodge left me with the conclusion that, keeping the luxury and discarding the exclusive African décor and style formula, can work, and wondering why nobody has ever attempted this combination before.

Entering the lodge through the double, oversized, metal-studded doors, I was removed from the lively insect buzz which permeates the bush, and into a entrance space that immediately drew me into it’s warm focal points with a trace of mystery as to what exactly you’re in for, and what lies beyond.

Directly in front sits a bright blue kist. The colour, spicy aroma, and ornamentation are not expected and the two large ornate mirrors just above the kist threw back a pleasantly bemused expression as I glanced into their honeyed depths. The kist sits just perfectly upon the light grey flooring and backing wall and sets the tone for the colour theme that will be entertaining you throughout: one of beautifully rich popping colours backed by the vast, smooth, soft canvasses of calm grey floors and walls. To the left the sun comes streaming through the elongated windows, some of the penetrating beams are swallowed up by the mirrors, while others cast spiraling shadows onto the deep window sill, hat rack, wall and pillowed sofa; an alluring piece which seems to be insinuating that no matter what time of day it is, now would be a good time for a little lie down. This is only the first room though and my piqued appetite for the mystery of what lay beyond this warm welcome presented a far stronger argument than even the sumptuous sofa and his harem of pillows.

In short – all I can say about Elephant Lodge is WOW! We had a superb weekend that was very special to our family. The home is absolutely stunning, the décor is magnificent and it is so well equipped – almost better equipped than my own home. The staff were amazing. We truly could not have asked for me. This property truly is magnificent. I can only offer high praise for this property. It is incredibly special. I hope that we will be able to visit Elephant Lodge sometime again the future.
