We turned off Blaauwklippen Road and meandered along the country lane lined with rustic farm walls that leads to Keermont, where an idyllic valley at the foot of the mountains (farmed since the 18th century) opened up before us.
Situated on a tree-shaded terrace, The Farmhouse looks onto a stunning vista of vineyards and fynbos, presided over by mountain peaks. Being in the midst of the winelands means that Keermont makes a perfect base from which to explore neighbouring estates such as Waterford, De Trafford, Kleinood and Dornier; not that you need to venture very far to taste wine – the estate’s tasting room is only a spitting (or spittoon’s) distance away down the hill, and the boutique vino is superb.
The estate is owned by the Wraith Family, who relocated here to get their own slice of Stellenbosch country life. The generously proportioned Farmhouse consists of a series of comfy interleading lounges (that can be closed off with French doors for privacy), and two luxe en-suite bedrooms. The master has its own large dressing room, and a chaise longue for languishing lazy afternoons away.
Much of the furniture is antique, yellowwood tables, riempie seats, armoires and gilt-edged mirrors have pride of place throughout. The Farmhouse is far from a lifeless museum space, though, it’s liveable and luxurious, and the benefit of the modern tweaks to the structure is the abundance of light and space.
Days can be enjoyed exploring your surroundings, from the nearby wine estates of the Blaauwklippen Valley, to hiking (the uppermost reaches of Keermont boast a fine view of Table Mountain), or just lounging around the pool. We came during winter, so our evenings were spent congregating around the fire sipping on the delicious spoils from a day’s wine tasting. We woke up on the Sunday morning to be greeted by a sprinkling of frost on the lawn, glinting in the winter sunlight. Coffee and rusks followed in the sun-filled conservatory, with its spectacular views of the vineyards, Bottelary Hills and Stellenbosch Mountains. We put our feet up to take it all in.
The separate guest cottage overlooks the pool terrace and is snug and welcoming, and ideal for two couples who want a bit of me-time. There is a library too, with a baby grand piano, and an inlaid leather writing desk which overlooks the valley. This is where you’ll get some quiet time for starting that novel you’ve always dreamed of writing. If Keermont doesn’t get your creative juices flowing, nothing will.

We have completely fallen in love with the supreme setting of your farmhouse and hope to return for more time, hopefully we can negotiate a month for next year. We have stayed in well over 100 self catering properties over the years in numerous countries, they have come in all shapes and sizes; simple cottages, French Chateaus and much in between however everything pales in comparison to your Farmhouse perched on the side of Helderbrug Mountain nature reserve, fronted by vines and Table Mountain!!! We felt guilty leaving it, as it felt like time wasted from the perfect property you have created of peaceful solitude, nested among powerful scenery, stunning design, insane furnishings and décor, with those priceless antique treasures! Endless walks among the vines and shoulder of the mountain, with never a soul to be seen. The area has some of the finest wineries and restaurants on offer and being flanked by Helderburg and Stellenbosh mountains was humbling. It was such a privilege for us to savour much of what your home has to offer. I could go on raving about the quality of the linen, TV, sound system, furniture, KITCHEN, pool, bathroom!!! and and and…. Last and not least was the wonderful presence of Wendy and her serene and gracious way in which she looks after this house that she is so obviously devoted to. My only worry is will we ever be able to get into this best kept secret again? Wishing you all the success you deserve! Best wishes
"The accommodation was fabulous! Thank you! Monica was superb and had no hassle sorting us out even when we got lost and she had to come find us late in the evening. That venue is to die for and I will strongly recommend it to anyone."

The breakfast goodies in the fridge were SO appreciated as we had not thought that far…. That venue is to die for and I will strongly recommend it to anyone!
