Handpicked for you...

Say ‘city escape’ and it conjures up a metropolitan buzz. But this gloriously secluded home on 1200 sq metres of established, predominantly indigenous garden, combines easy accessibility to the city’s assets – luxury shopping, an easy airport run, good restaurants – and yet presents as an equestrian country retreat or boutique hotel in an estate with only seven other homes in the precinct.
Deep verandas overlook sweeping lawns and coax you outdoors to enjoy arguably one of the best climates in the world. A Highveld winter may begin with a snap of frost but by mid morning, you’re planning an al fresco lunch overlooking the lawns. Think G&T’s or chilled bubbly. In summer, take to the pool deck or find a secluded area of the garden armed with a blanket, a panama hat and a novel. At night, enjoy a braai or dinner around the boma.
Your stay here is the ideal two to three day breather before heading off to a luxury game reserve, Mozambique or Victoria Falls. But while you are here, the home will be both your sanctuary and, if you have an eye for sophisticated but low-key luxury and artful arrangements of fine art and furniture, your design inspiration. Any traveller familiar with the owner’s property in the Klein Karoo, Bobbejaansberg, will feel the touch of one of SA’s most talented interior designers, Gregory Mellor; look for the subtle brushstrokes of Africa in horns, bone, sun-bleached raw wood, botanical prints and rugs on cool slate floors, pops of warm colour in fabrics and artwork. Every room is a cameo composition.
In cooler months, the kitchen of this hideaway offers an inviting alternative to casual dining under the gleam of copper pots and the warmth of a working kitchen. The resident cook skilfully assembles delicious meals, leaving you all the leisure time in the world.
Once a country smallholding, the property that boasts excellent but very discreet perimeter security, retains these roots and a stay here will remain a diary note on why ‘time out’ in a travel itinerary is as important as the thrill of exploration and experience.

What we love!
The feeling that you are on a country estate, despite being very much in the metropolis.
Having a fantastic resident cook who will also shop for you and can create excellent, varied menus to suit your tastes.
Accessibility – Glenferness is situated on outskirts of the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg and yet 20 minutes from Sandton and other major shopping centres with OR Tambo airport easily accessible as a hub to international and African destinations.
What you need to know…
The perimeter security is exceptional on the property but discreet enough for visitors to enjoy a relaxed stay.
While the property is available all year round, best months are April, May and June, September, October and November when the gardens and weather are at their most spectacular.
