For a brilliant bush break, Greens Camp in De Wagensdrift ticks all the boxes. Accessible? Yes; it is only 100km from Joburg. Beautiful? Absolutely! It is surrounded by rolling bushveld hills alive with birds and plains game, zebra, giraffe and wildebeest. Welcoming? 100%. House manager Khumbulani ‘Sabelo’ Dhladhla is the friendliest man imaginable; he will assist with your luggage, food prep and makes the most delicious pizzas! Relaxing? Of course. In fact, time stands still at Greens: ‘You feel like you’ve been away for days after a weekend, and you can face the crazy week ahead,’ say the owners.
Greens Camp – originally established by and named after the famous Green brothers, explorers of southern Africa in the 1850s – was a labour of love for its current owners, who wanted to build their ultimate escape. ‘We wanted a place in the bushveld that was close enough to Johannesburg to allow us to go as regularly as possible to escape our manic city life. We love the views, there are rolling hills and big skies and complete silence except for the most amazing birdsong. We have an abundance of birdlife at the farm and even have paradise flycatchers nesting in our courtyard every year. Giraffes come to visit and steal lemons off our now very sparse lemon tree.’
With two comfy double en-suite bedrooms and a generous bunk room that sleeps four kids, Greens Camp is perfect for family and friends, and there is plenty to do in – and near – the bushveld farm estate. Spend your days relaxing with a good book on the wide verandahs or beside the pool, or head off for bush walks or bicycle rides. Slightly further afield (a mere 10-minute drive), Dinokeng Nature Reserve offers Big Five game-viewing (choose self-drive or guided options), picnic sites, bird hides or even hot-air ballooning. Enjoy tea in the afternoon sun lounging next to the pool with a natural birdsong soundtrack. And then take a slow drive past browsing game to the top of the hill for a glorious view of the rolling hills and to watch the sun sink below the horizon, or head to one of the viewing spots for traditional sundowners. Back home for supper, you can fire up the pizza oven for a little al fresco dining under the stars or gather for a relaxing braai. One thing you are guaranteed is to wake up feeling just so rejuvenated after a tranquil night’s sleep.
We’d say the owners can certainly pride themselves on a mission accomplished: Greens Camp is the perfect weekend escape for family and friends, and we can’t wait to go back.

The place was perfect for our family and it had plenty of space for the kids to play in the courtyard. The camp had a great patio to cook, eat and relax. It was also very safe and secure and the Dinokeng Game Reserve was just a short drive away.
We had a wonderful time at Green’s. It was the perfect introduction to the bush for our little nephews (2 and 3 years old respectively). The camp was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The staff, particularly Sabelo, was friendly and accommodating and wonderful with the kids. The boys loved making pizza’s (a huge hit).
We enjoyed our stay at Greens Camp. Everything was so neat and and clean elegant!

Cullinan – 20km away from Greens camp
Cullinan is famous for the discovery of what became known as the Cullinan Diamond - the largest rough gem-quality diamond ever found. The charming little village has managed to hold on to much of its mine village character - its historic stone and corrugated iron mine workers’ houses, offices and churches a throwback to the mining times of the early 1900s - lies 25 kilometers south east of Green’s Camp.
Cullinan still serves the Premier Mine and its Oak Avenue, richly lined with both Jacarandas and Oak trees, is a living museum and tribute to this era - beautifully preserved Edwardian period buildings complete with picket fences, cool porches, appealing little gardens and a number of restaurants and coffee shops.
Gorge Gliding and Abseiling in Cullinan
Take the leap across Muningi Gorge in Cullinan with 3 zip lines between 200 and 550 meters, 50 meters high, and speed up to 100 km per hour or enjoy the exhilaration of abseiling down sheer cliffs up to 60 meters high. Just 30 minutes from Pretoria, Cullinan Adventure Zone is home to some of the best adrenaline pumping activities in Gauteng.

There are lots of interesting galleries and coffee shops along Oak Avenue in Cullinan here are a few of our recommendations:
Wagendrift trading store
Approximately 1kms north on the Moloto Rd from the turn off into Leeukloof Valley is the Wagendrift trading store owned by the infamous Louis . It is one of the last of its kind in that it sells everything from building supplies to band aids. It is worth visiting just to experience and it also sells petrol, however, please be warned that it is reminiscent of stepping into the past and experiencing what Crooks Corner in the Kruger may have felt like a century ago!
Closest Supermarket –OK Foods
Approximately 1 km north on the Moloto road (Left turn as you come out of the reserve on the main road) The OK Food store is on your left you will see it is clearly marked. You can get most basic groceries from this store.
