Handpicked for you …

Sunbirds nest on the patio and tease nectar from a myriad indigenous flowers, all in summer fancy dress. They can do so because Kopperfontein rests gently in the pristine natural environment, with no disturbance. Rather, it mirrors nature’s essential elements in its seemingly effortless earth-turned-practical design.

The architect owners created an earth-inspired cocoon of privacy and breathing space, that’s atypical along this coast. Their love for the bush and country living reflects subtly in the contemporary farmhouse design with soft safari green walls and brass knobbed doors with old-worlde long keys. Unfettered basket light shades, woven cane furniture and comfy Morris chairs are reminiscent of a slower life – and hanging nest seats loudly whisper ‘afternoon naps’.

While some nap, others curl up reading books on the sweeping patio. The energetic are free to dive bomb into the natural rock clad pool, cut into the wooden decking that skirts the house. Like a farm dam, the pool is perfectly round and so deep you’ll never bump your kneecaps. The less boisterous amongst us are patient for peace and the pool martini seat with a colourful sundowner as company.

At Kopperfontein, kitchen food preparation comes with big screen natural theatre in panoramic views over fynbos all the way to the sea. But nature carpets the property in every direction too. Just a kilometere further along the winding road is Robberg Nature Reserve. A place for walkers and lovers of nature and wild ocean views. It’s an easy walk, but if you have a tangle of cooler bags with braai plans, a quick car ride also makes sense.

Tucked under indigenous trees, Kopperfontein’s rock braai was inspired by those in the reserve. As the light fades and the fire brightens, braais under a star-spangled canopy epitomise summer evenings in the African bush. Daytime floral colours are temporarily swapped for light pools throughout the garden. Even the trees rain soft light through the night.

Space to exhale in absolute privacy is hard to find. But here you will be swathed in soothing earth touches and natural inspiration that encourages deep relaxation. You can see blue skies and sea birds through high level windows, and when the vast glass doors stack back, inside and outside is seamless. It’s only the baboons that are discouraged from stocking up at the fruit bowl, otherwise all are welcome.

Sunkissed days and big sky starry nights, evening fires and daytime dips in the cool rock pool. Gentle walks or rugged bike rides. Laughter with friends and languid lunches. It’s authentic living, fresh air breathing, peaceful sleeping, summer holiday style at its finest. Just imagine it.
