Handpicked for you...

There are some homes that tell a story. That invite those who enter their doors on a journey into another world, one of luxury and comfort with just a splash of eccentric glamour. Magpie Farm is one of those homes! Following a dirt road weaving through neighbouring horse paddocks you find yourself at the entrance of this majestic house, you walk through a pair of elaborate wrought-iron gates, across a courtyard of lavender bushes and wild shrubs towards a tall, intricately carved wooden door. The interior of this home is nothing short of spectacular. Flooded with natural light, the main living space unfolds before you with its eclectic atmosphere of contemporary sophistication. This is juxtaposed with a life size Indian, teak rocking horse, carved and painted sumptuously, which stands in the living area, seemingly waiting to gallop off into distant hills.

The home’s wooden flooring beautifully compliments the warmth of the teak double doors that open themselves onto the outdoor area, overlooking the large garden pool and the Constantia mountains. The outside area could either be used for lazy Sunday lunches enjoyed by the pool or the entertaining of guests on balmy evenings beneath the stars. The exclusively indigenous garden is home to a menagerie of local birdlife, as well as some amphibious critters that inhabit the small man-made dam on the property.

The kitchen is home to a large central island, with its overhead lighting and accompanying bar stools, this is a space not only for cuisine but conversation! Beyond the kitchen is yet another outdoor space where meals can be leisurely indulged in. Upstairs, the master bedroom opens up to a tremendous view of the neighbouring springbuck paddock With its understated yet sophisticated décor and capacious en suite bathroom, this room is truly something to behold. There is another small living area upstairs complete with deep leather couches and a large television.

Each room within this house holds something truly magical. With a modern yet nostalgic feel it as glamourous as it is welcoming. We invite you to enjoy one of Cape Town’s most magnificent suburbs in one of its most beautiful homes.

What we love!

  • The feeling of being deeply ensconced in countryside, yet only 15 minutes from the Mother City.
  • The opportunity to take horse-riding lessons practically from the doorstep.
  • The garden is gorgeous and fun for kids both big and small, and with views to die for.
  • The super, long-standing housekeepers live on the property and unobtrusively run the house like clockwork.

What you need to know…

  • The fifth bedroom is in a completely separate annex a stone’s throw from the front door. It has an open plan living area with a kitchenette which works perfectly for an older teen or grandparents wanting a break from noisy grandkids!
  • The house was styled and furnished by the previous owners and has not been re-shot since the new owners took occupancy. However, very little has changed, although there are more options to ‘sit soft’ in the outside living space.
  • The owners do have dogs, however these stay with the housekeepers when guests are staying.

Constantia, Cape Town

Leafy lanes, large gardens with sprawling lawns and views of mountains at every turn, Constantia is all about enjoying gracious country life, while staying in touch with the city. This is where residential roads lined with towering trees suddenly give way to historic wine estates and vineyards, where forest trails and mountain streams run between
