Handpicked for you...

The Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape have always provided a welcome escape for holidaying Capetonians. Not only is the landscape  rich in fynbos, wild f lowers,  birds and other indigenous wildlife but its kloofs and ravines shelter ancient Khoisan rock art that records the passing of the region’s earliest inhabitants.

Not far from Citrusdal, and just two hours from Cape Town, Waterfall Farm is a citrus farm featuring a large farmhouse, which comfortably sleeps ten, and two separate cottages – Honey Cottage sleeping seven and Weaver’s Nest sleeping four. They provide all you need for an unfussy weekend in the country. Oh, and being a working farm, you can help yourself to the oranges and naartjies from the surrounding the trees.

These are landscapes of cultural significance, but they also provide the potential for a sojourn away from home that’s tranquil and beautiful. The only sound on a hot summer’s day is that gentle clacking of the cicadas. This is also a landscape of olive groves and orange orchards, the village of Citrusdal the namesake of the heavenly scent of the orange blossom that pervades the air.

Few properties come with such a magnificently abundant water source that’s not only clear and pristine but has rock pools big enough to swim in and waterfalls to stand under. People who’ve experienced a hot Cederberg summer understand that easy access to a free-flowing river is part of what makes holidays in this region hugely desirable.

Across the farm there are places to cycle and hike and sun-baked outcrops to picnic on. For history buffs, if ancient rock art is your thing, there are some exceptional sites to explore in the near vicinity. However the biggest drawcard on steamy hot days, and just a short walk from both farmhouse and cottages, the waterfalls are where friends and families gather to cool down, splash about and enjoy summertime fun!

If you have a hankering for simple country living then look no further. Rustic, low key even, with covered stoeps to sit out on when the evening air is cool, the roomy accommodation provides the quintessential South African holiday home away from home.
