Harbour view beach house
Overlooking the Southern Peninsula coastline of Simon’s Town, tiered into the hills above the harbour, Simons Kloof House reveals its timelessly-stylish beach bungalow spaces with an earnest welcome.
Simons Kloof House, perched on the fynbos slopes of Simon’s Town, captivates with stunning views of the harbor, mountains, and ocean as you descend to its entrance. The stylish beach bungalow evokes a sense of belonging, inviting you to imagine preparing breakfast in its open kitchen while soaking in the picturesque surroundings. The scene is filled with family activities, from walks with penguins on Boulders Beach to lounging by the infinity pool, all accompanied by a refreshing sea breeze. This idyllic location on the Southern Peninsula offers a unique atmosphere, blending comfort and inspiration in a beautifully designed home.
The home has been beautifully renovated and stitched together with a team of local designers, artisans and the family’s stamp on style. Evident in the James Mudge brass-top table, and the feature pendant that hangs above the dining table, designed by Greg Marshall. The High Thorn chandeliers, the Japanese-inspired folding screen closets and the earthy tones and textures that are cleverly layered across all three levels of the property. Wherever you plant yourself – whether it be around the dining tables or in the living areas, the TV room with a sleeper couch for extra comfort, the enclosed reading rooms or the glorious suites themselves – inspiration accompanies you into every space.
Sensational sunrises and sunsets
When you and the clan are not hanging out at this stunning seaside home, you’ll be out exploring the vintage charm and elegance of the town. Meandering the historical village streets, popping into the odd café, convenience store and old souvenir shop. Fish and chips in the harbour and plenty of ice lollies along for the walk. Swimming in the warm waters that wash around the boulders, and hiking on the mountain trails. Day trips along the coast or into Cape Town. Perhaps an afternoon in the Constantia winelands or picnics in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
You’ll be pivoting from this little pocket of paradise, returning with overflowing cups. To the evening lights that flicker in the distance, casting fireballs across the shoreline. The skies transforming in all the magical colours before night sets in. Light the fires and bring out the games. Pour another tipple and toast to that beautiful sense of belonging that has managed to hold a firm grip on the entire clan’s hearts. Feeling oh-so-proud of all of the moments of joy you’ve achieved in the day.
What we love!
- The location of this property could not be better. The home is sheltered from the notorious Cape winds that do tend to pick up. When the streets are dealing with the gales, you will recline comfortably beside the pool on the loungers, sipping on something delicious and cocooned from the madness below. It also offers easy access to all of the essentials in town.
- The views are spectacular – watching the whales breach and the sailing boats cruise across the ocean. Making their way in and out of the harbours. You get a little bit of everything – mountain, beach, sea, boats, the seaside town, the marine wildlife, the colours and the magical Cape landscape.
- The beautifully styled interiors – all of the spaces are furnished with a considered intent and apparent appreciation for local design.
- Reclining in the cosy reading nooks. Relaxing on the verandah, watching the yachts, ships and little boats sail out to sea.
What you need to know…
- Simon’s Town is an hour’s drive from the centre of Cape Town, yet it feels like a remote, secluded seaside haven. You will have access to all of the convenience stores of the town or neighbouring village that’s less than a 15-minute drive away.
- Boulders Beach is no more than a 15-minute walk from the house. Or a 3-minute drive. One of Cape Town’s most cherished beaches where you can get up close and personal with the African penguin colonies.
- It’s easy to head out on day trips along the coast, into the neighbouring towns of Kalk Bay, St. James and Muizenberg. Cape Town or to the Constantia wine region – home to some of the country’s finest restaurants and wine estates.
- The home accommodates as many as 8 people – 3 ensuite bedrooms and the TV room that offers a comfy sleeper couch.
- For those meals around the table when you don’t feel like cooking, head to the Salty Sea Dog at the wharf for some takeaway fish and chips and dish it up on the long verandah.
- Please remember to close all doors and windows when you are not on the property. If they are left open to the baboons residing on the mountain, you’re likely to lose the contents of the kitchen.
