Cape Town City Bowl
With Table Mountain as a constant backdrop, the harbour and bay to look out at and a vibrant city centre to explore, the City Bowl is at the heart of the action. The question is not so much what to do, as how to cram in all the sights, tastes and experiences of life in buzzy, cosmopolitan Cape Town.
Foodies are in heaven here with Bree Street offering an exciting restaurant, tapas bar, bakery or café every 20 meters, plus neighbouring Long, Loop and Kloof Streets also getting in on the trendy dining scene. Artisan cheese, tick, sustainable bacon emporium tick, plus organic Oranjezicht City Farm market on a Saturday is not to be missed.
Of course life isn’t only about good food, and Cape Town’s attractions, from the cableway up Table Mountain, to the museums and galleries around The Company’s Garden, from the glamorous V&A Waterfront to the charms of colourful Bo Kaap and chic De Waterkant, are all right on your doorstep. Walk, uber or take the convenient MyCiTi bus to get you across the compact city centre. On the first Thursday of the month, join local culture fiends walking the route between galleries, cafes and design stores which stay open late on the much anticipated First Thursdays.
As well as these urban pleasures, join locals hiking up Lion’s Head at full moon, walk up Signal Hill for sundowners, hike one of the trails on Table Mountain, or head to the beach at Camps Bay or Clifton for surfing and sunbathing. Live like a local in picturesque neighbourhoods on the steep sides of the City Bowl such as Tamboerskloof and Higgovale, discovering their best kept secret waterholes and eateries, enjoying the stupendous views and the laid-back lifestyle that Cape Town does so well.
