Camdeboo Plains, Karoo
“The Karoo is one of the world's oldest and greatest deserts. To the casual traveler it is an arid desolation, without life and without charm. To those who know it, it is a land of secret beauty and infinite variety, fierce sometimes, hostile sometimes, but exercising a fascination that makes the rest of the world seem strangely tame” Eve Palmer - The Plains of Camdeboo
Grab a week to remember and revitalize all your senses with a trip to the Camdeboo Plains in the Great Karoo. We fell totally in love with this beautiful part of the continent, the vast open spaces and being able to sit and contemplate these incredible views whilst game viewing.
The historic homestead is totally exclusive with its own 21m swimming pool to the local waterhole. The décor is gorgeous, sumptuous and glamorous to spoil and indulge your every whim. The colours are taken from the Karoo, African earthy patterns and the largest blue skies to take your breath away from sunrise to sunset. Textured throws, slate grey cushions against white oversized, comfortable armchairs and sofas. Big bedroom suites and bathrooms have dark wooden cupboards reminiscent of an historic home with gorgeous soft, white linens on the beds, armchairs, fireplace with views of the plains. The interiors were done by John Zwiegelaar of John Jacob Interiors.
It is an ideal spot to gather with family and friends from far and wide and a huge plus is that it is in a malaria free zone with access to wonderful game viewing, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, rhino and Vervet monkeys and plan visits to Graaff Reinet and the Valley of Desolation.
But one of the highlights of your stay is to take your meals at different viewpoints for example overlooking the historic Camdeboo plains with Shakemore the game ranger. But don’t leave your windows at the lodge open otherwise those naughty Vervet monkeys will dive into your rooms!
