On the shores of the Langebaan lagoon, Kinsail Beach Villa beckons you in to its cosy, yet contemporary spaces, that are as sublimely pacifying as they are invigorating.
An ode to all things Irish, Kinsail Beach Villa represents so much more than just a tranquil West Coast retreat. A sprawling beach bungalow cushioned into the dunes and fynbos veld, overlooking the tepid, turquoise waters that engulf every viewpoint. It is more than all of its refined, luxurious furnishings, its state-of-the-art appliances, its earthy, textural attributes and cosy pockets of blissful repose. Its original 1960’s walls and floors and windows and walkways are a symbol of time and change. An homage to courage, exploration and belonging. This hideaway is a little four leaf clover of luck that landed in the current owner’s hands, who’d encountered many a Irish tales and serendipitous life-changing moments that lead her to this serene spot on the West Coast. For many more memories to be made and tales to be told, for all of the generations to come.
Stretching itself across one vast level of living, dining, entertaining and reclining spaces – with a rooftop garden and lounging area, maximising on the views of the landscape – Kinsail Beach Villa inhabits an age-old charm that seamlessly blends with its contemporary characteristics. Voluminous lounging areas are for basking in the sunshine that streams through the glass sliding doors and windows. Drawing you out with the seagulls, calling one another in their flocks, around the clock. An enclosed braai and dining area cocoons itself from the elements – whatever the weather this will be a wonderful spot to gather and tell those lengthy tales everyone loves to hear! Four bedrooms dart themselves around the home, the main ensuite acting like a separate cottage, allowing for that extra bit of privacy. Each suite having its own long stoep, to step outside and take in that salty air. Early morning brews and late afternoon tipples in your own quiet seclusion, should you wish.
Rising with the flock of gulls, you’ll make your way up to the roof garden, witnessing the dawn break with your first hot cup of the day. Out onto the footpaths, making your way through the white sand, down to the lagoon’s shoreline and off to places like Friday Island for another coffee. Head to the main road for some warm, crusty bakes and a couple of loaves for brunch. A walk past Shark’s Bay to park yourselves into the sand and watch the boarders and kite surfers take to the waves. Head back to Kinsail Beach Villa for that hearty brunch and early afternoon snooze. Either on the lovely long stoep or in the enclosed courtyard. Maybe up to the roof garden, or perhaps one of the beautiful bedrooms entices you back beneath the sheets. Nothing like listening to the sounds of the gulls, the breeze and subtle sounds of nature as you drift off, cherishing those holiday winks. The late afternoon fish braai begins. All prepped and ready to hit the flames in their zesty, dilly, sauvignon blanc butter. As the sun begins to set you’ll witness the most spectacular transformation of the sky, turning shades of orange into gold into pink. Those colours representing your own kaleidoscope of transformation, that’s begun to occur at Kinsail Beach Villa. As you savour the serenity of the sublime surroundings of the lagoon.
What we love!
- Kinsail Beach Villa was renovated to reveal its original 1960’s features and retain its history, incorporating all of the necessary modern appliances and luxuries. The owner and her architect like to refer to the property as the old lady who’s all dressed up in fancy attire. We love the story of the home and its all year-round inviting atmosphere.
- Venturing to the fish market to source the catch of the day, that’ll make for a lovely feasting from the braai. There is a gas braai – with all of the bells and whistles – or an old-school braai, to pick and choose from. Also cleverly appointed ambient lighting for meal time, and preparation lighting when needed. It’s the little things.
- Spending time in the ‘braai room’ – the enclosed little courtyard space that has its own fireplace and dining table, lazy seating areas and cosy little spots to cocoon yourself from the elements.
- Sitting in the big white swivel chairs, reading a book and letting the sun gently seduce you into a slumber.
