Portugal’s historic architecture, culinary heritage and popular beaches have always loved by travellers… along with the irresistible pastéis de nata or traditional custard tart. But it’s trendy Lisbon, known also for its yellow trams, many steps, the Pombaline style architecture in Baixa and Moorish influences in the cobbled streets of Alfama that’s worth exploring, as is the nearby town of Sintra for its romantic palaces and lush gardens, unless the beaches of Cascais and Estoril prove more tempting.
