If it were at all possible, Franschhoek just got a whole lot more enchanting with Pear Farm. The esteemed valley of the vines – where nature and village life intertwine like the grapes do the farm posts – has been lauded the appropriate land for a hideaway so perfect, it takes the town’s repertoire up a notch. The owner’s fond experiences of Franschhoek over the years, an earnest love for animals and her expertise in all things aesthetically seductive were the makings of the magic that’s transpired.
A contemporary, industrial-inspired farmhouse, surrounded by long grasses and ancient oaks, vines, fruit and nut orchards, veggie gardens and wild, blossoming indigenous pastures where the peacocks, hens and alpacas freely roam. Proudly exhibiting and generously lending their 4 acres of land, that they so rightly claim as their own.
In its barn-like structure, raw and exposed materials, open-plan flow of its living, dining, reclining and entertaining spaces, Pear Farm nods to the town’s age-old vernacular, alongside the bold statements made in the modern artisanal furnishings and signature art works embellishing the home. Four ensuite bedrooms – referred to as the Summer, Winter, Shiraz and Chenin rooms dart themselves down the corridors that all open out into the gardens.
Allowing nature to work her wonders with light and foliage, mountain air and valley aromas. A seasonal river runs through the property, where the birds and the dragonflies bath in the water, adding to the delicate ecosystem that’s nurtured on the property. There’s a swimming pool with plenty of languid seating spots occupying the outdoor areas. Looking out through the cypress trees, towards the mountains.
Whatever the weather, or reason for your winelands adventure, you and your clan will have your holiday cups overflowing with zest. Ensconced in the luxury of the property, you’ll pivot from the farm posts at your leisure. Rising with the birds as the sun creeps across the valley, sweetening up the fresh garden berries with its rays. You’ll pick them for your breakfast, amongst other treats, and slowly welcome the day on the long stoep. A dip in the pool and a walk around the little farm with the animals. For those that love to cook, the kitchen beckons with its considered gadgets, appliances and cookbooks aplenty.
A lot of your time will be spent planning and preparing the next feasting. That’s what Franschhoek is all about. Consuming all of the things that warm up our hearts as much as our bellies. Surrounded by those that make us happiest. Regaling moments that remind us of the things that matter most. As you gather on the rooftop cocktail deck or around the fire-pit, toasting to the days gone and years of friendship. Yes, that’s what Pear Farm rather furtively inspires you to do, almost every moment of your stay.
