A beautiful homestead, perfectly positioned in the Swartland countryside, Badenhorst Farm Cottage in Malmesbury is a wonderful escape for small groups seeking the quiet life.
There are those weekends when nothing will do but a change of scenery, and a little country air. Just beyond Cape Town, Malmesbury beckons you in to a gentler world of wheat fields, vineyards and open farmlands. Where the farm animals graze and wander the sprawling paddocks, setting the scene and the pace of country living in the Western Cape. For those seeking an elegant escape without straying too far from the city, venturing to secluded cottages and intimate rural retreats, is just often just what the proverbial doctor prescribes.
That’s what we love about Badenhorst Farm Cottage. Life on the farm has never been such fun. This special, simple cottage on this glorious, small and exclusive wine farm, situated deep in the Swartland between Malmesbury and Wellington should not be overlooked.
Enjoy the walks, the ever-crackling fireplace, and the sublime location as the views are spectacular to the mountains beyond. The fields change colour all year round. It’s a wholesome farm where rustic country charm abounds. It’s where the Badenhorst wine is grown and matured.
Letting the good life unfold
The cottage is simply decorated in whites and blues with luxury linens on the beds, quirky antiques and family collectables, and warmed with underfloor heating – which is great in winter. There’s a small kitchen, perfectly equipped, and a bathroom with a roll-top bath.
This hideaway is loved it for its proximity to the Mother City, and if the kids do come along, they are in heaven throughout the hours of the day. Picking vegetables out of a ‘to die for if you live in a city’ vegetable garden. Frolicking in a little muddy dam after running around with the farm chickens. Exploring the fynbos reserve behind the cottage that opens up a whole new world into understanding and appreciating the landscape. Be prepared for lots of animals….horses, dogs and lots of magnificent birdlife.
And if you fancy stomping the grapes and a slow session of proper wine tasting (without the little ones) then this is the region for it! Remember your bicycles…it’s perfect bike country and close to Riebeek Kasteel and Wellington for lunch. Although we think you won’t want to leave the farm.
