Its smorgasbord of dreamy eateries from family delicatessens to legendary fish restaurants, community cafés to unique dining experiences in nature with award-winning chefs. It harbours all of the attributes a holiday destination should behold. Especially when it comes to those multigenerational getaways, where every member of the clan needs their boxes ticked.
One of the oldest kids on the block, situated in the old town, no more than a three-minute walk from the dreamy stretch of beach – affectionately known as the wedge – Sandals bares its contemporary bones that’s set over three expansive levels of vibrancy, views and voluminous living. Beautiful, open entertaining spaces sit at the helm of the home where the kitchen, dining and living spaces extend towards the bar area, that opens out with stackable windows to the outdoors.
Views of Formosa, the Outeniqua Mountains, Keurbooms Beach and Nature’s Valley occupy different corners and nooks and frames of the hideaway, that somehow continues to reveal more and more of itself as you travel through the spaces.
A fantastic kids entertainment area sits on the ground floor, with a TV and large shelf – chock-a-block with boardgames – opening out to the swimming pool deck with loungers and umbrellas aplenty. Ideal for those days around the pool where you’re completely cocooned from the weather, the neighbours and the noise of the beachgoers. It certainly does feel like you’re at your own little retreat in the oldest part of Plett.
Upon arriving at Sandals, catching sight of the 200-year old Cypress Tree that canopies the driveway, it’s apparent that this home has a thousand tales to tell. Where generations have gathered and grown year after year, around the beaches, the old lanes that lead to the town, the trails into nature and back home again. Where days have been spent lapping up the thrills of this special family destination, in accordance with each member’s discerning itinerary.
Whilst some of the clan might like to spend time around the pool, others might prefer a surf. Some might be on their bikes exploring the cliffs, or playing a decent nine holes of golf, as others linger in the quirky cafés catching up with the locals, snacking on some of the finest bakes known to man.
Whatever floats your Plettenberg boat, you and your clan will be busy building lifelong holiday memories that you’ll revisit time and time again, for the next generation to inherit. And that’s what we love so much about Sandals – as a tribute to Plett – her history is being well-nurtured, maintained and revered.
