Just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town, along one of the most scenic routes in the Western Cape, where the roads cushion their ways between the mountains and the ocean, rests the lovely seaside town of Kleinmond. Deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this region is revered for its nature routes and sublime seaside lifestyle.
At least that’s what the owners of Soudt declared. It’s the tranquility of the area that made it their holiday destination as a family for decades. The lovely community and almost micro-climate that Kleinmond offers. Plenty of outdoor activities for the whole clan to throw themselves into, whilst being inspired by the magnificent landscape that surrounds.
Soudt is no more than a twenty-minute walk from the shoreline. Set across one vast level of beautifully styled living spaces. A large open-plan kitchen merges with the dining and entertaining spaces that waft in an out with the ocean breeze. Plenty of outdoor seating space, a heated swimming pool and a kids play area with a jungle gym allow for many a hour of family fun.
Sea views and mountain peaks
Being settled in South Africa’s oldest biosphere, this holiday home is perfect for the adventurous kind. The conscious travellers that are eager to explore the botanical gardens, the hiking and biking routes, the lagoon and long stretches of sand, the surf and the sunshine. It’s also a wonderful place for those long, restful days ensconced in nature. Especially from the open spaces, where the sweeping views of the mountains and the ocean engulf all of the rooms. You’ll be quite happy settled on a lounger or a sofa, cocooned from the elements. Nose deep into a juicy book, with a refreshing holiday tipple in hand.
There are some lovely walks that you can enjoy around the clock, down a wooden walkway that escorts you along the shoreline. Head to the Palmiet Lagoon for some fishing and paddling in the warm waters. You can also pack a picnic and play on the lagoon’s beaches with all of nature’s little treasures. Either a lazy brunch or late afternoon lunch back at Soudt, around one of the tables. That’s the thing about this coastal hideaway, it’s incredibly well thought out; layered in luxury and finely polished in its appearance. But at the helm, it’s a family home that exudes comfort.
As a team, you might like to get on the bikes and head to the harbour for some fresh fish sourcing. Grab an ice-cream and cycle back to start preparing the braai. Some will be slicing and dicing whilst others are taking another dip in the pool. The kids will be climbing the jungle gym and competing with who can spot the whales from the top.
On the odd day you’ll head to Betty’s Bay that’s just around the corner for a slight change in scenery. More deli hunting and surfing. Perhaps a quick nine holes of golf whilst those that like the pampering, savour an hour or two at the spa at Arabella Country Estate. You’ll find the days gently drifting by as if your holiday has become your new way of living. No urgency for anything other than being in the company of your favourite people, who are living their best lives in this lovely holiday town.
