So it’s big and bold, but there are some of us who love this level of luxury in the bush every once in a while… and if you’re celebrating a 40th or 50th – or any milestone birthday – Star Chestnut Lodge ticks all the boxes. Set on a fenced stand in Mjejane Private Game Reserve and built from natural stone hewn from the setting, it has all the bells and whistles and opens up completely to the river and Kruger bushveld beyond. What sets it apart is its stunning rooftop terrace and foodies will sing for joy when they cook in this beautifully equipped open-plan kitchen, complete with cold rooms and utility areas behind that quite simply make entertaining a dream.
Designed to take multigenerational family groups, it has a separate wing behind the main lodge, where kids and teens are bound to enjoy their freedom with a dedicated living area, complete with a pool table and slouchy sofas – and being fenced, it’s easy to walk to the main living area. The indigenous gardens are landscaped around a circular boma and fire pit, a wonderfully social gathering place for evenings spent around the fire under the brightest stars.
So go on, invite your nearest and dearest friends to join you at Star Chestnut, or celebrate in style around its glam pool and toast your birthday under the stars on the rooftop. It sleeps 18 in total in six beautiful river-facing suites, and two teen rooms with three single bunks each.
What we love!
• That we can finally send our loyal Perfect Hideaways guests to a lodge big enough for your extended family gatherings – all your kids are getting older and your get-togethers larger!
• That Star Chestnut is a very different offering to our other Mjejane lodges and ideal for corporate clients wanting to workshop somewhere special. It has just received five-star accreditation.
Need to know…
Please note Star Chestnut can only be booked for sole-use by you and your loved ones, and not on a room-by-room basis.
• That there are two game vehicles, and the lodge is managed by a management team.
• That it’s an easy one-hour drive from Nelspruit airport to Mjejane gate – through citrus groves, sugar-cane fields and beautiful granite outcrops as you’re heading in the direction of Mozambique. This is a very beautiful area to explore, with Mjejane as your base, or to combine with a holiday in Mozambique or Swaziland – or even a lodge further north.
